DASA News

It is with great regret that DASA has heard of the news that Roger Hurkett has passed away. Roger was very well known within DASA, as it was he who was the instigator and driving force behind the association almost four decades ago. Rogers vision for the industry was ahead of its time, and he was able to galvanise and unify the service industry through DASA. The Officers and Council pass on their deepest condolences to Rogers family.

The next scheduled Dasa meeting is due to be held on Thursday 14th July 2016. If you are a member or have an interest in attending, please contact DASA prior to the date.

Members may attend the AGM in person, and the venue is the Mercure Sheffield Parkway, Britannia Way, Catcliffe, Rotherham, S9 1XU. Further details about the time of the AGM will follow shortly. Please note, this will not be a full AGM day as per AGM's of several years ago, and there will be no 'event' tied to the AGM or speakers etc. The AGM proceedings will take approximately 45 minutes, and will be followed by a short break, before the normal January council meeting commences. Therefore voting by post or email may be the most convenient method for most members. The next DASA AGM will be held on January 28th at the Sheffield Parkway Mercure hotel. In line with AGM's over the last several years, the next AGM will be a very low key affair, immediately to be followed by an ordinary council meeting. In recent years, DASA have opted to hold a separate event for the wider members and industry, so that the council can conduct the necessary nuts and bolts of the AGM as quickly and efficiently as possible. As you are no doubt aware, an AGM is a legal requirement for an association. The content is mainly legal 'housekeeping' and doesn't constitute a meeting of great interest to general members, as the necessary voting and election procedures can be conducted via post and email. The AGM will probably take around 40 minutes, after which there will be a short break before the normal council meeting commences at approximately 11.00am. Further details will follow before the 28th.

Italy's Indesit sold millions of the affected tumble dryers across Europe. At least two people suffered smoke inhalation, and a third was burnt. Many more families had to run for their lives, and a number of pets died. Owners will have to wait up to five weeks to hear if their machines are safe.

The chairman, officers and council of the Domestic Appliance Service Association would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Jim Watt formerly of the Loudon group Glasgow. Jim was a very active member of DASA, ever present recruiting and promoting the association before his retirement. Jim will be sorely missed by all his industry colleagues.
